The King's Bowl
The King's Bowl – A small gesture that found its way to the Palace not long after the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the ascension of King Charles III.
I decided to mark the moment in my own way — by turning a simple oak bowl in my workshop. Once finished, I laser engraved it with King Charles III’s royal cypher and sent it to Buckingham Palace as a personal gift, along with a short letter of sympathy and support.
Honestly, I didn’t expect anything back — it was just a respectful gesture, nothing more. A few weeks later, I was surprised to receive an official reply from the Palace. The letter, signed by the King’s Correspondence Secretary, expressed His Majesty’s thanks for the bowl and kind words. According to the letter: "His Majesty was touched you have given him a present... The King is most grateful to you for taking the trouble to write as you did..." Needless to say, it was a proud moment. To know that something crafted on my lathe, with care and respect, actually reached its intended destination — and received a personal response — means a great deal to me. A simple bowl. A moment in time. And a memory I’ll always hold on to.
